Precedent SEO – method to rank websites without backlinks or keywords

March 13, 2023 Reading time: 7 min

The primary reason for my searches was a question: What was happening to ranking results?

When I noticed that Google updates significantly hit the link ranking factor (in most the one in May 2022 i would say), I immediately realized that “the rules of the game have changed.” Many then saw in aHrefs a picture that despite the fact that the site continues to receive links, its positions are falling…

What did people say about the situation?

If you listen to any blogger at that time, everyone was saying the same thing: that this is just a permutation among the correct positions and not correct ones, that there won’t be much difference for the site’s targeted traffic, that in the end you just need to make more content based on personal experience with photos. video confirmations, etc…

What actually happened?

I searched for the answer for a long time by checking the sites that came up but more and more often I found more videos, government sites, etc. in the SERP. I do not want to dwell on this here, but I think many have seen that the issuance has changed significantly. And then I decided to check how the sites created on the site of Google itself are doing, and that’s what I saw

So, if you look at it, historically sites based on the Google platform have never had such a stable planned growth as from the end of 2021 to this day. Everything that has been seen before looks like nervous reactions to changes, it is the latest updates that show that such sites have become competitive (so capable that it looks deliberate).

Specifics and details

So, I felt that I was getting closer and closer, but there were still questions: are Google-based sites really out of competition, or is there something special and not just getting well-deserved traffic where yesterday there were reviews, guides, etc.? I decided to find out and collect 100 Google-based sites that have grown dramatically after Google updates and began to receive a huge amount of traffic to try to understand what they have in common. And here’s what I found:

1. There are no external links at all or almost none.

2. All sites have a huge expanded menu (mostly on the side) that reflects all the articles on the site.

3. There is little content but a lot of infographics (photos and videos).

4. Quite a few pages.

This is actually everything! Although there were those who had a lot of texts. With this information, two things could be understood:

1/Link influence on ranking results is very weak

2/In place of reference power came the influence of user behavior factors.

My conclusions about what is now with the ranking

Suppose the site has a level of user interest that makes the site more clicks (for example, a large menu can help in this) the user spends more time on the site (for example, watching a video). In that case, the user goes through many pages, bookmarks the link, and returns to the site in a straight line a link or a link that friends share and so on means that the site is better than similar ones. Of course, you will immediately object to the sites on which the person bought the goods and left, but they can also compete on similar parameters. Of course, the links have not ceased to be useful, but they can lead to the target audience that creates the maximum behavioral factors. And do not forget that all metrics are analyzed in terms of competitive sites, and therefore we must not forget that search engines distinguish well where online stores with buy buttons, a basket, etc., and where a regular blog, etc.

How to test this SEO theory

To check whether it is possible to rank and get positions and, accordingly, traffic from Google without keywords, you need to create a precedent where people will first search for your site on Google and select it among others and then not visit other sites, but there are several “buts”.

1/ How to make the site rank according to the required request initially?

2/ How do people search for the right site without visiting others?

This is where my theory comes into play

So I answer both questions at the same time – you need to create a precedent and provoke people to look for your site among others, for example, using social networks and Photoshop. Guess what I’m talking about? Just in case, I’ll tell you to the end: you take a screenshot in Photoshop where Google already gives out your site for a very strange request with a title that provokes people to go to Google to search for your site for this request. Here is an example:

Then we send such a screenshot to the social network: post it on the wall in groups, share it with friends, or you can even make an e-mail newsletter (anything to get people to start checking) you can add the question “Is it real?”. The closer the topic is to the content, the easier it is to ask a question and the more natural it looks… Regarding the question about existing positions, of course, it’s better if the website is already ranked for the request we need, which is easy to check in the search console, however, if there is no position at all, then we will expect people to google first as in the screenshot and then search for the article by the URL that sees us as a screenshot or add the site domain to the request so that in both cases it will force Google to show our page for this request.

Thus, we create a precedent for searching our page by people in front of Google and achieve exactly the result that we create artificially from the very beginning in the picture in Photoshop, from which the name of the method follows – precedent.

Important details of this approach, features, and limitations

Naturally, no one has canceled the rules that oblige you to obey the laws of the country in which users are located and other restrictions to which the Google algorithm is subject, but these are the details that I think are clear without detailed deepening.

Naturally, I recommend considering keyword difficulty as the top sites’ traffic may simply be more than what you want to set a precedent for. Just look – if there are sites in the top that have reliable statistics created by a million users, then sending even a hundred thousand to search for your site using the manipulations described above, it is unlikely that you will be able to quantitatively defeat those who are in the top. In simple words, it’s better to try it on pages with less competition…

I note that at the moment there is not a single restriction in the form of Google releases directed against behavioral factors, so you can experiment without doubt and fear
